Winemakers Visit Grand Cata - Events are Back!

“I know that guy!” exclaimed Santiago Reta of Finca La Escarcha, “He’s a good friend of mine, and I love his wines!”

Santiago was doing something that used to happen all the time at Grand Cata. He had recognized a fellow winemaker’s bottle on our shelves! In this case, the Bonarda from Familia Mayol. It was a beautifully nostalgic exchange, a moment in which we had a spark of the energy that Grand Cata is built on.

After going nearly twenty months without a winemaker pouring wines for customers, we’ve begun in earnest to re-introduce one of the pillars of Grand Cata: tasting wines with the people that make them.

In just the past month, we have had the pleasure to bring in Paula Pivel from Alto de La Ballena (one half of our Winemaker of the Year winner); Santiago, mentioned above; Juan Moñoz, winemaker and vineyard manager from one of the best up and coming projects in Chile, La Ronciere; Felipe Tosso from Ventisquero; and Francisco Pizzorno from Pizzorno Wines in Uruguay. All have brought their unique perspectives, energies, and humor to delight our customers.

We have really enjoyed our time with these winemakers, getting the chance to build relationships with them and learn more deeply about their wines and philosophies. More importantly, we love to see the excited looks on our customers' faces as they learn new things while tasting the incredible wines from Latin America.

Stay tuned for more tastings and classes with winemakers, and more events overall. After all, Cata Means Taste!
