Wine Club: Bárbaro-Barbera!

We continue to bring you a delicious variety of vino with Wine Club! This time around we have a super fun theme: Bárbaro-Barbera!

To get the pun, we have to explain how the Argentines and Uruguayans use the word “Bárbaro.” Technically meaning “Barbarian,” they use it to mean “awesome,” or “super cool”...something out there and different, but also special.

Put together, Bárbaro-Barbera means Incredible Barbera. That’s how we feel about the grape in general. We love it from it’s native Piedmont, and we can’t wait for you to try the one we found from Uruguay!

Viñedo de los Vientos Barbera 2019 - Atlántida, Uruguay

If you recognize this producer, that’s because we love their work and have several other bottles from them. Interestingly, the family originally hails from Piedmont, coming over to Uruguay in the 1930s. This was common, so you find many people in Uruguay of Piemontese descent.

This bottle, though, is new to us. It’s actually the first Uruguayan Barbera we’ve seen! Juicy, fresh, and soft, this wine sees no oak. Instead, it spends 9 months in concrete vats, a practice we love and one that proliferates South America. This leaves the wine polished, and accentuates the fruit flavors.

Crealto Vino Rosso "Agricolae" 2018 - Piedmont, Italy

This 100% Barbera comes from a clay and limestone-gypsum vineyard in Barbera’s home, Piedmont. The most famous grape from this region is Nebbiolo, but the people of Piedmont actually grow, produce, and drink much more Barbera. This is an easy drinking, exceptionally versatile red that you can pop open any night of the week!

Please allow us to continue to reach out to you in batches to schedule your pick up. Gracias!
