Wine Club: Classic Meets Modern Malbec!

As you know, we have a soft spot for Malbec. With this release, we want to highlight an overlooked quality of the grape: its versatility.

Though the bolder, richer, more intense wines from Malbec have brought the grape to fame, we also love the fresher, juicier styles that have begun popping up. Many vintners have experimented with growing at higher altitudes and using different techniques aimed at letting the grapes shine.

So for this release, we thought we’d take a look at where Malbec has been, and where it's going, in the hopes of showing you just how versatile the grape is. Let’s start with the newer style. From Vino 40/40, we picked a delightful, fruit-driven expression that has Bonarda mixed in. A classic blend made in a modern style. Aptly named “Otro Andar”, roughly translating to “another way,” this wine speaks to the dramatic shift in approach that many winemakers in Mendoza are taking to showcase all sides of Malbec.

For the more classic bottle, we showcased a wine vinified almost 8 years ago! Los Noques 100% Malbec from the 2013 vintage is at once powerful, spicy, and complex. The years in the bottle have done this wine well. We believe it is in its prime right now. Drink it soon with a hearty winter stew to warm you up!
