Adios to Hispanic Heritage Month!
Monday night, our friends at the Latino Economic Development Center hosted an event to celebrate latino entrepreneurship in DC and say goodbye to Hispanic Heritage Month. Our co-founder Julio took part in a panel discussion alongside 3 Latina entrepreneurs, Gabriela Febres of Arepa Zone, Paty Cruz of El Sabor del Taco, and Karlisma, an artist whose gorgeous work adorned the walls during the event.
The panel focused on the particular difficulties, advantages, and resources available to Latino entrepreneurs in DC, as well as each panelists journey to where they and their businesses are today. Each offered inspiring and valuable advice, particularly the importance of passion, tenacity, patience, and organization. Attendees feasted on the delectable offerings from Gabriela and Paty, along with wine tastings provided by Grand Cata.
The success of this event got us thinking back on the myriad events we hosted and took part in over the course of Hispanic Heritage Month. Below are just a few of our favorites!
Taste the Andes
We invited some of our favorite Argentine producers to pour their wares in our shop. Guests loved the opportunity to learn directly from members of the individual wineries, and our staff had the opportunity to find some new go to suggestions to customers!
Tasting Series with Politics and Prose at Union Market
On 4 different occasions over the course of Hispanic Heritage month we went off-site and poured wine at Politics and Prose. This gave us the opportunity to introduce
ourselves to new members of the Latino community in DC, and we had a blast doing so!
Wine Dinner at Joselito’s
We love Joselito’s food and atmosphere, and were honored to be extended an invitation to take part in a wine dinner in their beautiful restaurant during HHM!
#DailyCata with Charlie Villard
Regulars to the shop know we are HUGE fans of Charlie and his family’s work. A small, family owned and operated winery in the Casablanca Valley in Chile, Villard wines represent the epitome of what we mean by “honest wines.” And everyone that had a chance to meet Charlie while he was here know that he’s a true character! His now annual visit to Grand Cata as become one of our favorite times of year!
Sherry Week Colosia Tasting
Sherry is one of Spain’s jewels. We’re proud to always carry a complete array of all the styles from Jerez. And while we love explaining Sherry to our customer, there’s nothing like learning directly from the importer, who brought an example of every Sherry style to taste.
We will miss Hispanic Heritage Month, and how each way we celebrated it brought us closer to the Latino community in DC! Hasta el proximo año!
